Asian-Americans Blaze Trail to Stardom on YouTube
For the most part, Asian-Americans in Hollywood are regulated to roles on the sidelines. There are, of course, exceptions. John Cho and Lucy Liu instantly come to mind. Social media, specifically YouTube, is changing some of that dynamic, as reporter Kaitlin Parker shows in a story from NPR’s Intern Edition:
“A handful of Asian-American YouTube stars have been steadily building an audience by putting out content that’s varied, creative, and most of all, relatable to other young Asian Americans. As web-based movies and music continue to draw big numbers online, more digital acts are taking their shows on the road–and finding no shortage of real-life fans.”
